The Star Outside My Window
by Onjali Q. Rauf

This is a great book about the power of love, determination and friendship. This issue of domestic abuse is fundamental to the story but is not laid out in a disturbing way. The adventure has great pace and hope is held high. For 8-12-year-olds. Paperback $19.99

The Key to Flambards
by Linda Newbery

Grace is suffering after a life changing accident and the divorce of her parents and ends up spending the summer at her grandmother’s old house Flambards. Here she learns to ride a horse, make friends and overcome her self-consciousness and sadness about the loss of her leg in the accident. With the help of others who care, she also helps to save the family estate from developers. A great book for understanding what it would be like to cope with a new disability, and for anyone who loves history, horses and nature. - No, you don’t need to have read the Flambards series first (although I heartily recommend it)
Recommended for 8-12-year-olds. Paperback $18.99
